Client Needs Analysis

Problem Statement

1. Slow Analysis

Law enforcement struggles with delayed social media analysis.

2. Risk of Harm

Delays can lead to preventable injuries and fatalities.

3. Need for Speed

A real-time tool is essential for prompt action.

Design plan context

I chose Twitter for the MVP due to its accessible public sentiment data, allowing for a cost-effective launch.

Information Gathering

I did focus group discussions to deeply understand user's side

  • Sentiment analysis is crucial for detecting public mood shifts that may signal unrest or crime.

  • Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are the most valuable platforms due to high engagement and real-time updates.

  • Transparency and accountability in monitoring require regular audits and oversight.

  • Continuous staff training is essential to keep up with evolving social media trends and technologies.

  • Real-time alerts and a strong communication system are critical for swift action.

Competitive Analysis

To understand existing solutions, I analyzed Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, and Brandwatch, assessing their strengths and weaknesses.

Group 33915.png
  • Basic sentiment analysis tools

  • Suitable for general regional targeting only

  • No free version; starts with a standard plan

  • Limited team management features compared to Hootsuite and Sprout Social

  • Basic sentiment, trend, and influencer analysis

  • Limited location-based features

Group 34079.png
  • Premium pricing, mainly targeted at enterprises and large businesses

User Persona

I created user personas at this stage to keep users at the core of my design process, ensuring feature development stays aligned with their needs.

Low Fidelity wireframe, Testing, Design Adjustments

Test, Fail, Re-design

  • Created paper mockups and pencil sketches to map out key features.

  • Conducted rigorous testing using predictive user stories.

  • Gathered user feedback to refine and adjust designs.

  • Iterated quickly to ensure usability and intuitive navigation.

Building Smarter Tools for Law Enforcement

My Learning

Building Smarter Tools for Law Enforcement

1) Understanding User Needs – Conducted multiple meetings with the state police department and cyber cell to deeply understand their workflows, challenges, and requirements. 2) Design System for Consistency – Established a structured design system to ensure uniformity and efficiency across the platform. 3) Regular Collaboration – Held daily standups with the engineering team to review design implementation and ensure accurate execution. 4) User-Centric Approach – Conducted design sprints, prototyping, and usability testing to identify flaws early and iterate quickly. 5) Maintaining Design Workflow – Spent time with the cyber cell to analyze their patterns and optimize the interface for their needs.

Faster Response to Online Threats

Cut response time to critical events by 80%, reducing it from 5 hours to 1 hour.

Proactive Event Detection

Flagged 10 potential high-risk incidents within the first month, enabling timely intervention.

Working on Socio reinforced the importance of clear communication and precision in design, especially in law enforcement projects. Every decision had to align with legal constraints, ensuring compliance while maintaining usability. Regular discussions with stakeholders helped prevent misinterpretations that could lead to serious consequences. I learned that collaboration, transparency, and constant iteration are key to building a system that law enforcement can trust and rely on.
